How do you feel about the U.S. electoral college?

I just see it as a way for Republicans to limit the votes of minorities (since we usually vote Democrat). For example, look at the Bush vs Gore campaign, Bush lost in the popular vote, but won in the electoral vote. Also, it was originally created just to avoid the votes of uneducated voters, so why do we still need it considering how informative the media is today, as opposed to the way it was back then (consider FDR's handicap issue, we didn't find out until way late into his presidency--clearly demonstrates the ineffectiveness of the media at his time).
